Jewelcrafting is the newest profession added to World of Warcraft in The Burning Crusade expansion. It is focused on crafting Rings, Trinkets, and Gems – new items that can be placed in your equipment with sockets for permanent buffs. Raw Gems can also be mined from ore deposits in Outland. There are 3 main types of deposits in WoW TBC:

• Fel Iron – basic ore that drops Green (Uncommon quality) ore and Gems like Golden Draenite or Blood Garnet.
• Adamantite – the main ore of Outland. Drop Blue (Rare) quality Gems like Nightseye or Living Ruby.
• Khorium – elite ore deposits that have a higher chance to drop Rare quality materials and can be sold on the Auction House for a good amount of gold.

Jewelcrafters can opt to level up Mining and farm the materials themselves or buy them from the Auction House.

Each Raw and crafted Gem has a color that determines what stats it’ll have after the cutting process. There are 6 different types of colors available in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade:

• Red – considered to be the best. Give pure stat buff or attack/spell power
• Yellow – best for boosting secondary stats like hit or crit rating.
• Blue – perfect for survivability with stamina or mana regen benefits.
• Orange (Red + Yellow) – Crafted from Noble Topaz. Best for most classes. Provide mixed secondary stats like Crit + Strength.
• Purple (Red + Blue) – crafted from Nightseye. Perfect for tanks and healers.
• Green (Blue + Yellow) – made from Talasite. Cheapest gems with a mix of stats for all classes.

There are also special Meta Gems that are socketed into helmets and provide powerful buffs:

• Chaotic Skyfire Diamond: +Crit Rating and +3% Increased Crit Damage. (Must-have for all DDs).
• Mystical Skyfire Diamond: Chance for spell haste.
• Tenacious Earthstorm Diamond: +Stamina and chance to restore HP.

Meta Gems can be used by all classes, not only Jewelcrafters, and are in high demand for all players. They require a specific set of regular stones in your equipment (for example, “2 blue stones are required”) for the bonus to work.
